On a festive Sunday, legendary cricketer Brian Lara visited the famous Suruchi Sangha Club Durga Puja pandal in South Kolkata. Accompanying him were West Bengal State Minister Aroop Biswas and members of the Durga Puja committee. Lara, who was visiting Kolkata during the festive season for the first time, expressed his admiration for the festival, calling it a wonderful experience. He also took a selfie with the Durga idol, capturing the special moment.

Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava, is a major Hindu festival celebrating the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. The festival spans 10 days, with the main events occurring during the last four days. It is a time of joy and celebration, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Brian Lara, a former Caribbean cricketer, holds the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket, with 501 not out. He achieved this feat in 1994 while playing for Warwickshire against Durham. Lara retired from international cricket in 2007, concluding his career with 22,358 runs and 53 international centuries. He also shares the Test record for scoring the most runs in a single over, hitting 28 runs off South Africa’s Robin Peterson in 2003. Lara played 131 Tests and 299 ODIs for the West Indies, amassing 11,953 runs in Tests and 10,405 runs in ODIs.

Earlier that day, former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly also participated in the Durga Puja celebrations by offering prayers at a pandal in Howrah, drawing a large crowd eager to see him.
