New Delhi [India], August 26: Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira arrived in New Delhi late on Saturday. He will co-chair the 9th India-Brazil Joint Commission Meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on August 27.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that Vieira’s visit aims to boost the strategic partnership between India and Brazil. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Vieira, emphasizing the importance of the visit in enhancing bilateral relations.

“Warm welcome to FM Mauro Vieira of Brazil, as he arrives in New Delhi to co-chair the 9th Joint Commission Meeting. The visit will provide further impetus to the strategic partnership between the two countries,” said Randhir Jaiswal.

G20 Troika and Future Plans

During the visit, Jaishankar and Vieira will discuss how India and Brazil, as part of the G20 Troika, can advance key outcomes from India’s G20 Presidency last year. Brazil has taken over the G20 Presidency until November 2024 and will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19.

India-Brazil Relations

India and Brazil share a multifaceted relationship based on shared values. The visit will explore new avenues of cooperation in various sectors. The strategic partnership between the two countries was established in 2006.

In July, Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the MEA, led India’s delegation at the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Rio De Janeiro. He highlighted India’s flagship programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jal Jeevan Mission, and AMRUT, reiterating India’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to water and sanitation.
