Punjab Municipal Elections: A Day of Voting and Criticism
In Amritsar, Punjab, the Municipal Corporation elections are underway. Tarun Chugh, the General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing them of creating fear among the people. He urged citizens to vote in large numbers, calling it a 'festival of democracy.'
Chugh stated, "The people should give a befitting reply to the AAP government in Punjab. An atmosphere of fear is being created in the state." He also mentioned that Punjab's jails have become "studios of criminals" and that the law and order situation has collapsed.
Meanwhile, AAP candidate Ashok Parashar Pappi voted at the Government Primary Smart School in Ludhiana, emphasizing the importance of development in the elections. He encouraged people to vote enthusiastically. Another AAP candidate, Padamjeet Singh Mehta, from Ward 48, also urged people to exercise their voting rights, hoping for a victory that would mark the first counselor from AAP.
The elections, announced by Punjab's Election Commission on December 9, are being held for 381 wards in municipal corporations, 598 wards in municipal councils, and Nagar Panchayats. Voting began at 7 am and will continue until 4 pm.
