BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj Responds to AAP Leader Somnath Bharti’s Election Challenge

New Delhi [India], July 21, 2024: A day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti challenged the victory of BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Swaraj firmly responded to the allegations of corrupt practices.

Swaraj stated, “Bharti is finding it difficult to digest his defeat.” She added that Bharti had lost not only the Lok Sabha elections but also the Malviya Nagar assembly constituency, where he had been an MLA for a long time. Swaraj accused Bharti of filing the petition to justify his defeat and questioned his political survival.

Somnath Bharti has sought a court direction to the Returning Officer to call for records related to the elections held in the 04-New Delhi parliamentary constituency on May 25, 2024. The bench of Justice Manmeet Pritam Arora is scheduled to hear the matter on July 22, 2024.

The petition claimed that Bharti secured 3,74,815 votes, while Bansuri Swaraj secured 4,53,185 votes. It also alleged that Raaj Kumar Anand, a candidate from the Bahujan Samaj Party, was set up by Bansuri Swaraj’s party to help her win by cutting into the votes of the INDIA Alliance candidate. Anand, who was previously a minister in the AAP government, resigned from AAP and filed his nomination as an MP candidate from the Bahujan Samaj Party. He later joined the BJP on July 10, 2024, confirming the alleged intent behind his resignation.
