New Delhi [India], July 19: BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla criticized Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi for being silent on atrocities against women in states ruled by Congress or other INDIA bloc parties. He pointed out incidents in Howrah, Telangana, and the Sandeshkhali case in West Bengal.

Poonawalla said, “The Congress Party was silent on the Sandeshkhali incident and the Swati Maliwal assault case. Even today, they are silent on the incidents of atrocities against women in Howrah and Telangana.”

He also mentioned that the Supreme Court issued an order for women’s empowerment, which Rahul Gandhi did not welcome. Poonawalla added, “Just holding the Constitution will not do anything. You should also agree to what’s written in it.”

In another case, Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was accused of physically assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. The Delhi Police filed a charge sheet against Kumar in Tis Hazari Court, invoking several sections of the IPC.

The Sandeshkhali incident in TMC-ruled West Bengal involves allegations of land grabbing and sexual assault. The Supreme Court rejected the West Bengal government’s plea against a CBI probe into these allegations. BJP leader Subhas Sarkar criticized the West Bengal government for protecting people involved in corruption.

The Supreme Court, with justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, upheld the Calcutta High Court’s order for a CBI probe, stating that the WB police had done nothing for months. Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued that much work had been done, but the court was not convinced.
