On Thursday, the Alipore Police Court in Kolkata granted bail to BJP leader Roopa Ganguly after her arrest earlier in the day. She was released on a bond of Rs 1,000. Ganguly was protesting at the Bansdroni Police Station, seeking justice for a schoolboy who died in an accident involving an excavator.

Roopa Ganguly’s Statement

Ganguly stated, “I haven’t troubled anyone. I was peacefully sitting there so that those who have murdered that boy should be caught.” She claimed she was arrested while protesting peacefully and taken to Lalbazar Police Station.

Police’s Perspective

Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma explained that Ganguly was arrested for obstructing police work. He said, “An unfortunate incident occurred in Bansdroni. A student died in an accident, and there was a law and order situation. Roopa Ganguly demanded the release of those arrested for manhandling the police.”

Details of the Incident

The tragic incident involved a 14-year-old student who was killed by a payloader. Ganguly claimed the responsible individuals were close to a local TMC counsellor and were not arrested promptly. She protested at the police station, demanding their arrest.
