BJD Protests Over Alleged Assault of Army Officer’s Fiancee in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Odisha – On Saturday, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders staged a demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan to protest the alleged custodial assault of an Army officer’s fiancee. BJD Leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar criticized the BJP government, stating, “Odisha is in the news for all the wrong reasons.”
The incident reportedly took place on September 15 at Bharatpur police station, where the Army Major and his fiancee went to file a complaint against harassment. Instead of addressing their concerns, the police allegedly tortured the Major and the woman, even sending her to jail without justification.
Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, has called for a judicial probe into the alleged assault. He emphasized the need for immediate action regarding the violence and sexual assault claims.
The Chief Minister’s Office of Odisha issued a statement saying that necessary steps and departmental actions have been taken. Five police officers from Bharatpur Police Station have been suspended following the allegations.
