BIMSTEC Youth Summit Kicks Off in Gandhinagar
The first BIMSTEC Youth Summit, themed 'Youth as a bridge for intra-BIMSTEC exchange,' was inaugurated in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The event, which started on February 7 and will run until February 11, aims to promote the exchange of ideas on strategic issues empowering youth. The summit was inaugurated by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, MoS Raksha Khadse, and Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumder.
Focus on Regional Cooperation
The summit brings together young leaders from BIMSTEC countries to discuss challenges and opportunities in areas such as entrepreneurship, technology, digital connectivity, and sustainable development. This initiative aligns with India's 'Neighborhood First' and 'Act East' policies, as well as the SAGAR vision, reaffirming India's commitment to regional cooperation.
Prime Minister's Vision
During the 4th BIMSTEC Summit in Kathmandu in 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the hosting of this youth summit to unite the youth of BIMSTEC nations. The summit's primary goal is to facilitate the exchange of experiences and youth-led initiatives among member countries, focusing on achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Delegates and Discussions
The summit features 70 delegates from BIMSTEC nations, with each country represented by 10 youth delegates selected for their expertise in key areas. These discussions aim to produce meaningful outcomes that will advance the region's shared goals.
