External Affairs Minister Jaishankar briefed an all-party meeting, informing members that former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has moved to India. The Indian government has assured her of all possible assistance and is giving her time to determine her future course of action.

Government’s Response

Jaishankar stated that the Indian government is in touch with the Bangladesh Army and is monitoring the situation closely. The focus is on protecting minorities, and the High Commission in Bangladesh continues to operate. So far, 8,000 of the 20,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh have returned.
