Big Boxing Talent Hunt in Guwahati: 600 Boxers to Compete!

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI), in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), is organizing the 2nd REC Open Talent Hunt competition. This event will take place at the SAI Paltan Bazaar stadium in Guwahati from September 17 to 21, 2024.

The competition aims to discover new boxing talent from across India. Around 600 boxers will participate, competing in 12 weight categories for elite men and women, and 10 weight categories for youth men and women.

Top performers will advance to the Combined National Level Talent Programme. From there, gold and silver medallists will gain direct entry into National Camps. Winners in each category will also receive scholarships.

Hemanta Kumar Kalita, Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India, stated, “The REC Open Talent Hunt programme is designed to support budding boxers from every corner of India. It provides a fantastic opportunity for boxers from the North East to make a mark in their own backyard.”

The first tournament of this edition was held in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with 2820 boxers participating. The first edition took place last year in multiple cities, including Rohtak, Pune, Bengaluru, and Guwahati, with over 6,000 participants.
