Bhutanese King and Mauritius Foreign Minister Honor Former Indian PM Manmohan Singh
In a heartfelt tribute, Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful paid their respects to former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The tribute took place at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi, as shared by Randhir Jaiswal, the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.
King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck also led a solemn prayer ceremony in Bhutan at the Kuenrey of Tashichhodzong, attended by Bhutan's Prime Minister, the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, and senior officials. Similar ceremonies were held across Bhutan's 20 Dzongkhags. The King, along with the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and the Queen Mothers, offered one thousand butterlamps in Singh's memory.
As a mark of respect, Bhutan's national flags are being flown at half-mast. Manmohan Singh, who served as India's Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, is remembered for his significant role in modernizing India's economy through liberalization reforms in 1991. He was cremated near Rajghat, New Delhi, a resting place for many of India's prominent leaders.
