Bar Council of India Urges Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal for Advocate Welfare and Security
The Chairman of the Bar Council of India, Manan Kumar Mishra, has written a letter to the Minister for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, to address the welfare and security of advocates in India.
Advocates’ Role in Democracy
Advocates are crucial to our democratic system, ensuring the protection of fundamental rights and upholding the Constitution. Despite their important role, many advocates work under risky conditions without adequate health and life protections.
Need for Insurance Scheme
The recent pandemic highlighted the vulnerabilities of advocates, showing the urgent need for a comprehensive health, medical, and life insurance scheme for them and their families. The Bar Council of India has been advocating for this for a long time, and the Ministry of Law has started collecting data to address this issue.
Advocates Protection and Compensation Bill/Act
Mishra also emphasized the need for the swift implementation of the Advocates Protection and Compensation Bill/Act. Advocates often face threats and harm while performing their duties, and this legislation would provide essential protections, allowing them to work fearlessly and with dignity.
Government Support
The Chairman trusts that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Ministry of Law and Justice will take decisive steps to support the advocates of the nation. The Bar Council of India is ready for further dialogue and assistance in this noble endeavor.
