Bangladesh Interim Government Stands Firm on Women's Rights in Sports
The Interim Government of Bangladesh has voiced strong concerns over reports of women being barred from participating in recreational activities. A statement from the Chief Adviser's Press Wing condemned the actions of those disrupting girls' football matches, emphasizing that women are equal citizens with the same rights as men. The government is committed to ensuring these rights are upheld.
The statement further warned that anyone violating women's rights will face legal consequences. The government has instructed district administrations in Dinajpur and Joypurhat to take steps to resume the halted football matches. These districts have recently organized women's sports events, which were well-received by the community.
Led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Interim Government has also organized a large Youth Festival featuring women's sports across rural areas, with thousands of girls participating. Professor Yunus, a long-time advocate for women's rights, has sought support from FIFA chief Gianni Infantino to improve facilities for women footballers in Bangladesh.
