Bangladesh Interim Government to Take Oath After Sheikh Hasina’s Resignation
Dhaka, Bangladesh – The interim government of Bangladesh will take their oaths on Thursday evening, according to General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Chief of Army Staff. The ceremony is expected to include around 15 members and will accommodate 400 people.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5 following widespread protests led by students demanding an end to a quota system for government jobs. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who has been chosen to lead the interim government, called for peace and urged citizens to avoid violence.
Yunus, who will arrive in Dhaka from Paris on Thursday, congratulated the students for their efforts and emphasized the importance of building a better future for the country. President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the Bangladesh Parliament and released former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia from jail, citing concerns over nationwide violence and vandalism.
