Baloch American Congress Condemns Violence Against Peaceful Rally in Karachi
The Baloch American Congress has expressed strong disapproval of the violent actions taken against a peaceful rally in Karachi. This rally was led by Sammi Deen Baloch, a well-known activist. Tara Chand, President of the Baloch American Congress, highlighted on X that Pakistani intelligence agencies and police were involved in violent actions against the rally organized by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee.
Chand emphasized the importance of the international community condemning these actions, as they targeted Baloch people, including women and children. The rally was intended to prepare for a public meeting in Dalbandin on January 25th, focusing on the ongoing Baloch genocide by Pakistan. Despite being peaceful, the police responded aggressively, arresting Sammi Deen Baloch and other participants.
More than two dozen leaders and workers of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee were arrested during a march in Lyari. City Senior Superintendent of Police Arif Aziz stated that 25 protesters were detained for "anti-Pakistan activity." However, BYC activists claimed the police initiated a "violent crackdown."
The Baloch people, especially in Balochistan, have faced systematic repression and human rights abuses by Pakistani state agencies. Enforced disappearances are a significant concern, with thousands of Baloch activists and civilians allegedly abducted by state agencies.
