In Karachi, Pakistan, the Awami Tehreek (AT) organized a 12-kilometer march to protest the federal government's plan to construct six canals on the Indus River and amend the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) Act. The march, led by AT's central president Advocate Vasand Thari and vice president Hooralnisa Palijo, included women and children carrying placards and banners from Ghaghar Phatak to Gulshan-i-Hadeed.
Vasand Thari criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership, accusing them of conspiring to deprive Sindh of its water resources. He condemned PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for misleading the public while supporting projects that threaten Sindh's survival. Thari warned that the new canals are more dangerous than the Kalabagh Dam and accused the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) of selling Pakistan's resources.
Thari also warned that corporate farming would lead to food shortages, displacement of farmers, and poverty, transferring land control to foreign corporations. He criticized amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) for suppressing freedom of speech and urged the government to withdraw the canal and corporate farming projects.
In Hyderabad, Sindh Hari Committee (SHC) activists, led by Samar Jatoi, marched to protest the canal project, accusing the Wapda chairman of making false statements about water availability. Jatoi emphasized the importance of downstream Kotri barrage flows for the Indus Delta ecosystem and called for the provincial government to clarify its stance.
In Badin, PPP-Shaheed Bhutto activists protested against the canal construction, urging the Chief Justice of Pakistan to intervene and protect Sindh's interests.
