Assam Celebrates Deshbhakta Diwas and Moidams Join UNESCO World Heritage List

On July 28, Assam celebrated ‘Deshbhakta Diwas’ to honor the death anniversary of freedom fighter Tarun Ram Phukan. State Minister Pijush Hazarika explained that the Assam Government observes this day to remember Phukan’s contributions to India’s independence. Phukan, along with Gopinath Bordoloi, played a significant role in the freedom movement. The day is marked with events like memorial lectures, essay competitions, and floral tributes across various districts, including Kamrup, South Salmara-Mankachar, and Dhubri.

In another significant event, the mound burial system of the Ahom dynasty, known as Moidams, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List under the category of Cultural Property. This decision was made during the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy and pride, stating that the Moidams at Charaideo showcase the glorious Ahom culture and hoped that more people would learn about the great Ahom rule and culture.
