Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship Returns to Dubai in 2025

The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, the Masters Tournament, and The R&A have announced that the 16th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship will take place at the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course in Dubai, UAE, from October 23-26, 2025. This marks the second time the championship will be held in Dubai, following its debut in the region in 2021.

The tournament will feature top male amateur golfers from the Asia-Pacific region, representing 43 affiliated organizations. The winner will earn an invitation to the following year’s Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club and an exemption into The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale. Runners-up will have the opportunity to compete in the Final Qualifying for The Open.

Taimur Hassan Amin, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, expressed excitement about hosting the event at the world-class Emirates Golf Club. He highlighted Dubai’s rich golf history, including the 2021 championship won by Keita Nakajima.

Notable past competitors of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship include Hideki Matsuyama, Cameron Smith, and other successful golfers who have gone on to win numerous tournaments on the PGA Tour and other major tours.

General Abdullah Al Hashmi, Vice Chairman of the Emirates Golf Federation, expressed honor in hosting the event at the Emirates Golf Club, which is known for its iconic Majlis Course designed by Karl Litten. The course is famous for hosting the DP World Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic, won by legendary golfers like Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods.

The Open -: Also known as The Open Championship, it’s one of the oldest and most prestigious golf tournaments, held in the UK. An ‘exemption’ means the winner can play without having to qualify.

Hideki Matsuyama -: He is a famous professional golfer from Japan who has played in this amateur championship before. He is known for winning the Masters Tournament in 2021.

Cameron Smith -: He is a professional golfer from Australia who also competed in this amateur championship. He is known for his success in international golf tournaments.
