Ashok Tanwar Returns to Congress Before Haryana Assembly Polls

In a significant political move, former Lok Sabha MP Ashok Tanwar has rejoined the Congress party just days before the Haryana Assembly elections. Tanwar, who had previously been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was welcomed back into the Congress by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at Mahendargarh.

Tanwar’s political journey has seen him switch parties multiple times. He was initially a Congress MP from Sirsa after winning the 2009 general elections and served as the Haryana Congress Chief from 2014 to 2019. After leaving Congress, he joined the Trinamool Congress in 2021 and the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022. He later joined the BJP ahead of the 2024 general elections but lost the Sirsa seat to Congress’ Kumari Selja.

The Congress party expressed their delight at Tanwar’s return, stating that his joining would strengthen their fight for the rights of Dalits. The timing of his return is notable as it coincides with the last day of campaigning for the Haryana assembly polls.

During a public rally in Nuh, Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP government, accusing them of undermining the Constitution of India. He emphasized the Congress’s commitment to spreading love and unity through initiatives like the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, with results to be announced on October 8. In the previous 2019 elections, the BJP secured 40 seats, while Congress won 30 seats.
