Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu Criticizes YSRCP Over Vijayawada Floods

Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], September 17: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu criticized the YSRCP government for the Budameru breach that caused flooding in Vijayawada. He stated that it took his government 10 days to control the situation, whereas it would have taken six months if someone like Jagan was in power.

Flood Impact and Government Response

CM Naidu explained that the breach severely impacted the public for over seven days due to heavy rains, causing the Krishna River’s water inflow to increase to over 11.3 lakh cusecs. He blamed the previous government’s lack of maintenance and encroachments on Budameru for the disaster.

He announced a special package to address the flood impact across 179 sachivalayas in 32 wards. Ground floor residents will receive Rs 25,000, first-floor residents Rs 10,000, and those in other parts of the state Rs 10,000. Small businesses will receive Rs 25,000, and those with a turnover below Rs 40 lakhs will get Rs 50,000 without GST. Entrepreneurs with a turnover of Rs 1.5 crore will receive Rs 1.5 lakh.

Compensation and Support

Insurance claims amounting to Rs 71.5 crores have been registered, with Rs 6 crores resolved. Pushcart and auto owners will receive Rs 10,000, and two-wheeler owners Rs 3,000. Banks have been requested to provide loans of Rs 50,000 to ground floor residents with a three-month moratorium and a 36-month repayment tenure.

CM Naidu emphasized the need for urgent intervention and substantial support from the Union Government. He assured that a permanent solution for the Budameru breach would be implemented, focusing on the Budameru diversion scheme and a project above Budameru.
