As Jammu and Kashmir enters the final phase of its Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the need for a government capable of making decisive actions for the region’s security, peace, and stability.

Shah’s Message to Voters

In a post on X, Shah stated, “Jammu and Kashmir needs a visionary government that can also make strong decisions for the security, peace, and stability of the region.” He urged voters to elect a government that will keep the region free from terrorism, separatism, nepotism, and corruption, and focus on tourism, education, employment, and holistic development.

Polling Details

The third and final phase of the elections began at 7 AM today in 40 constituencies, with 24 in the Jammu division and the rest in the Kashmir valley. Over 3.9 million voters across seven districts are eligible to vote, with voting continuing until 6 PM under robust security measures.

Key Candidates and Campaigns

At least 415 candidates, including former deputy chief ministers Tara Chand (Congress) and Muzaffar Hussain Beig, are competing in this phase. The election is significant as it is the first in a decade and the first since the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019. Major parties like the National Conference (NC), Congress, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are in contention.

Previous Phases and Voter Turnout

The first phase of voting occurred on September 18, with the second phase wrapping up on September 25. Voter turnouts were 61% and 57.31%, respectively. High-profile leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi, and former J-K chief ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti, campaigned intensively.
