Amit Shah Honors Police Heroes on Police Commemoration Day

On Police Commemoration Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to police personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Speaking at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi, Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and drug trafficking in India. He highlighted that 36,468 police personnel have died protecting the nation, with 216 losing their lives in the past year alone.

Police Commemoration Day, observed annually on October 21, honors the bravery of police martyrs. The day marks the sacrifice of ten CRPF jawans who died in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959. Shah noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi established the National Police Memorial in 2018 to honor these heroes.

The memorial features a 30-foot-high granite monolith, the ‘Wall of Valour,’ and a museum dedicated to the history of policing in India. It serves as a place of reverence for police personnel and citizens, with regular parades and ceremonies held by the Central Armed Police Forces.
