Union Cabinet Approves 3% DA Hike for Government Employees

On Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced a 3% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees, calling it a ‘gift’ for the festive season. The decision, approved by the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also includes a 3% increase in Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners, effective from July 1, 2024. This hike will benefit 49.18 lakh employees and 64.89 lakh pensioners.

The DA and DR adjustments are made to help employees and pensioners cope with the rising cost of living. These are revised biannually based on the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers. Employees will receive arrears for July, August, and September due to the retroactive effect of the hike.
