New Delhi [India], September 30: Air Chief Marshal AP Singh has taken over as the new chief of the Indian Air Force. He succeeded Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, who retired after a three-year tenure.
About Air Chief Marshal AP Singh
Born on October 27, 1964, AP Singh was commissioned into the fighter pilot stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1984. He has served for nearly 40 years in various roles including command, staff, instructional, and foreign appointments.
Education and Experience
He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College. Singh is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot with over 5,000 hours of flying experience on different types of aircraft.
Key Roles and Achievements
During his career, Singh has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base. He led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team in Moscow, Russia, and was the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre, overseeing the flight testing of the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas.
He has also held significant staff positions such as Air Defence Commander at South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. Before becoming the chief, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command.
