Adil Rashid Aims to Play Until 2027 World Cup, Shares Wisdom with Young Cricketers

Durham [UK], September 24: England’s spinner Adil Rashid, who recently became the first spinner from England to take 200 ODI wickets, has no plans to retire soon. Rashid aims to continue playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup and pass on his experience to younger players.

Speaking ahead of the third ODI against Australia, Rashid emphasized his commitment to the game. Australia currently leads the five-match series 2-0, having won the last match by 68 runs. England, under the temporary leadership of Harry Brook due to Jos Buttler’s injury, has been struggling, losing 10 of their last 14 ODIs.

Despite the team’s transitional phase, Rashid remains a crucial player. He has signed a central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) until the end of 2025 and aims to participate in the 2024 Champions Trophy, the 2026 T20 World Cup, and the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Rashid expressed his desire to keep playing as long as he enjoys the game and performs well. He also highlighted the importance of sharing his knowledge with younger players, especially in the absence of his long-time friend and fellow spinner Moeen Ali, who recently retired from international cricket.

Rashid has been mentoring young spinners like Rehan Ahmed and Jafer Chohan, aiming to help them become top players. He credits his evolution into a world-class spinner to consistent selection and hopes to continue contributing to England’s success in white-ball cricket.
