Adam Svensson Shines at Black Desert Championship

The PGA Tour made a grand return to Utah after 61 years, with Adam Svensson taking the spotlight. Svensson achieved a career-best score of 11-under 61, securing a two-shot lead in the Black Desert Championship. The event, part of the PGA TOUR, saw ideal scoring conditions that many players took advantage of.

Notable Performances

Henrik Norlander impressed by hitting all 14 fairways and 18 greens, achieving a career-low of 62. Matt McCarty also stood out with an eagle on the par-4 fifth hole. Svensson, playing in the afternoon, made seven birdies in the first 10 holes and finished strong. This marked the second consecutive week in the FedExCup Fall portion of the PGA TOUR where a player shot 60.

Close Calls and Challenges

David Skinns narrowly missed a 10-foot putt for a 59 at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Svensson needed an eagle on his final hole for a sub-60 round but ended up in a bunker. Unaware that a 59 was possible, Svensson thought the Black Desert Resort was a par 72.

Unfinished Rounds

Darkness in southwestern Utah prevented the completion of the opening round. Among those who didn’t finish was 65-year-old Jay Don Blake, a Utah native and former PGA TOUR winner, playing his 500th career event. Blake was 3-over par through 15 holes.

Other Highlights

Kiwi Ryan Fox was tied for 6th with a score of 65 (-6), while Filipino Rico Hoey was the top Asian player with a score of 66 (-5). The Black Desert Championship offers a Masters invitation, and players are focused on finishing in the top 125 to retain a full PGA TOUR card for 2025.
