The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Government of Madhya Pradesh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop Shivpuri Airport. This agreement, signed on October 10, 2024, aims to enhance the civil aviation sector in Madhya Pradesh. Key figures involved in the signing include N.V. Subbarayudu, Sajith Kumar, and Ramji Awasthi from AAI, and Chandramouli Shukla from the Madhya Pradesh government.

The development plan includes the operation and maintenance of the airport, along with the provision of Communication Navigation Surveillance and Air Traffic Management services. Initially, the airport will accommodate 19-seater aircraft, with plans to expand to ATR-72 type aircraft. The state government will provide 292 acres of land for this purpose.

Shivpuri Airport is part of the UDAN 5.2 initiative, with Spirit Air, a new start-up airline, bidding for routes from Shivpuri to Bhopal. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has allocated Rs 45 crore for the airport’s development.

AAI, established on April 1, 1995, manages 133 airports across India, with 110 operational airports. It provides air navigation services over 2.8 million square nautical miles of airspace.
