BJP Announces Fourth List of Candidates for Jammu and Kashmir Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its fourth list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The list includes:
- Ravinder Raina for Nowshera
- Arif Raja for Eidgah
- Er. Aijaz Hussain for Lal Chowk
- Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir for Khansahib
- Zahid Hussain for Chrar-i-Sharif
- Vibodh Gupta for Rajouri (ST)
Earlier, on August 27, the BJP issued its third list of 29 candidates for the second and third phases of the elections. This included:
- Murtaza Khan for Mendhar
- Sunil Bhardwaj for Ramnagar (SC)
- Chowdhary Abdul Ghani for Poonch Haveli
- Pawan Gupta for Udhampur West
- Mohd Iqbal Malik for Thannamandi
- Baldev Raj Sharma for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi
The first two lists, released on August 26, included 16 candidates. The elections will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting on October 8. Jammu and Kashmir has 90 assembly constituencies, with 7 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (STs). There are 88.06 lakh eligible voters in the region. In the previous elections, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 28 seats, the BJP secured 25, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) won 15, and the Congress won 12. These elections are the first since the abrogation of Article 370.
