Union Minister JP Nadda and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Support Disqualified Wrestler Vinesh Phogat
New Delhi [India], August 8: Union Minister JP Nadda criticized the opposition for their demands to discuss the disqualification of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat. He emphasized that the entire country stands with her, and PM Modi called her ‘champion of champions.’ Nadda stated, ‘The PM’s voice is the voice of 140 crore people. Unfortunately, the opposition does not have any solid issue that they want to discuss.’
Speaking in Rajya Sabha, Nadda assured that the Government of India, Sports Ministry, and IOC tried to address the issue on all platforms.
Meanwhile, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann visited Vinesh Phogat’s house and expressed his disappointment. He mentioned that her coach and uncle suggested that her hair could have been cut to meet the weight requirement. Mann said, ‘It is not her fault.’
Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50 kg women’s wrestling event for exceeding the weight limit. She was set to compete against the United States’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the Gold Medal match. Phogat had reached the Gold Medal bout after defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi-finals.
