Young Indian Golfers Shine at Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Japan
Shizuoka, Japan – October 1: Four talented Indian golfers are competing in the 2024 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa, who played college golf at Long Island in the US, is making his third attempt. Vedant Sirohi from Webber International University and Kartik Singh, a member of the international team at the Junior President’s Cup, are back for their second try. Rakshit Dahiya, successful on the Indian Golf Union circuit, is the only debutant.
Three of the four Indians are returning for another shot at the title, which offers some of the best incentives and prizes in amateur golf. Kartik Singh, 14, is confident after his performance at the Junior Presidents Cup, where he secured 1.5 points out of three. He has also won the Singapore Juniors and placed well in several other tournaments recently.
Indian Golf Union President Brijinder Singh is closely watching Kartik’s progress. Chopraa, reflecting on his past experiences, said, “The last two times were great experiences, especially the first one in Thailand in 2022. Last year my game was not at its best, but this time, though I have not played too much, the game is shaping up well.” He was T-12 at the Porter Cup in the US this year and won several times in India over the summer.
The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, established in 2009 by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, The R&A, and the Masters Tournament, aims to develop amateur golf in the region. The champion will receive an invitation to compete in the 2025 Masters Tournament and the 153rd Open, while the runner(s)-up will gain a place in Final Qualifying for The Open.
