Gandhi Jayanti Celebrated with Cleanliness Drive at Delhi University

On October 2, the Ministry of Education organized an event called ‘Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata’ at Sri Venkateswara College (SVC) of University of Delhi to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. The event was part of the Swachhata Campaign and was attended by K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, along with other dignitaries.

The event was organized in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS). Additional Secretary Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Joint Secretaries Neeta Prasad, Ekram Rizvi, Rina Sonowal Kouli, Chaitanya Prasad, and officials from the Ministry, as well as Prof. V Ravi, Principal of SVC, and Prof. K Chandramani, Vice-Principal of SVC, were present.

K. Sanjay Murthy and other dignitaries planted five trees under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign at the college premises. They also participated in cleaning a black spot near the Satyaniketan bus stand. NSS members, volunteers, RWA representatives, social workers, and MCD staff joined them in the cleanliness drive.

The Secretary urged locals to maintain cleanliness and assured the college’s help if needed. He also motivated students to participate in future cleanliness drives and answered their queries about the National Education Policy 2020.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014, also participated in a cleanliness drive with school children. He thanked citizens for their participation and announced new projects worth Rs 10,000 crore related to cleanliness. The Swachh Bharat Mission aims to promote hygiene, cleanliness, and eliminate open defecation.

On this 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, PM Modi urged all citizens to continue participating in the cleanliness initiative to strengthen the spirit of ‘Swachh Bharat’.
