48 Boxers Join National Camp After REC Open Talent Hunt in Rohtak

In an exciting development for Indian boxing, 48 talented boxers, including 24 elite men and 24 elite women, have been selected to join the national camp. These boxers showcased their skills in the 2nd REC Open Talent Hunt Boxing Competition, organized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in collaboration with REC Limited and the Sports Authority of India.

The competition, held in September, saw over 4,000 participants from various age categories competing in Noida and Guwahati. The top eight pugilists from these events advanced to the Combined National Talent Hunt competition in Rohtak, which runs from October 6-22.

The initiative aims to expand the sport beyond traditional areas and discover new talent. Hemanta Kumar Kalita, Secretary General of BFI, expressed satisfaction with the competition’s level and the performance of boxers from states like Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh.

Haryana boxers dominated the gold medal tally, but competitors from Manipur, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, and Andhra Pradesh also excelled. Winners and runners-up in the youth categories will gain direct entry to the National Championships, potentially leading to national camp opportunities.
