21 Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in Pune for Illegal Stay

In Pune, Maharashtra, police have arrested 21 Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly residing illegally in the Ranjangaon area. The group includes 15 men, 4 women, and 2 transgender individuals, all reportedly using fake documents like Aadhar and PAN cards. The court has granted police custody of 10 individuals involved in the case.

Investigation Details

The arrests followed a tip-off received by Assistant Police Inspector Prakash Pawar of the Anti-Terrorism Squad on October 21. A search operation was conducted by a team led by Crime Branch Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar and Ranjangaon MIDC Police Inspector Mahadev Waghmode. Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind their stay in India.

Fake Documents Seized

Police seized nine fake Aadhar cards, PAN cards, and one voter identification card. SP Deshmukh mentioned that many of the individuals were engaged in labor activities, earning daily wages. The investigation is also exploring the possibility of an organized racket or agent facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India.

Legal Proceedings

A case has been registered under sections 336(2), 336(3), 338, 340(2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita and relevant sections of the Indian Passport Act 1920. Further investigations are underway.
