Zulfiquar Hasan Emphasizes Cybersecurity in Indian Aviation Sector
New Delhi, India – The Indian aviation sector must enhance its cybersecurity infrastructure by leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, and real-time threat detection systems, according to Zulfiquar Hasan, Director General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Hasan addressed senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and private airline members on the topic of ‘Cybersecurity in Civil Aviation: A Futuristic Approach’ in New Delhi.
Hasan emphasized that the civil aviation sector is crucial for global connectivity, economic prosperity, and international cooperation. However, it faces increasing cyber threats that could undermine its foundation. He noted that aircraft, airports, and air traffic control systems are deeply intertwined with complex networks, making them susceptible to cyber attacks, which are evolving and potentially catastrophic.
Hasan highlighted that BCAS has been a pioneer in promoting and strengthening cybersecurity in civil aviation. The organization has issued a series of orders to ensure that all stakeholders adhere to stringent cybersecurity protocols. He also announced an upcoming BCAS online cybersecurity and civil aviation course, in collaboration with Dr. Pawan Duggal, scheduled for September 11. The course is expected to be attended by over 8000 aviation professionals from India and abroad, making it the world’s largest collective effort to prepare the aviation workforce to tackle cyber threats.
Hasan stressed the need for a robust and resilient aviation ecosystem, emphasizing that cyber threats are trans-border and require a collaborative response. BCAS is working closely with the International Civil Aviation Organization on cybersecurity issues at the international level. Hasan concluded by stating that cybersecurity innovation is not just about preventing attacks but ensuring the safety and security of millions of passengers.
