Zamir Abdullah Criticizes Government, Calls for Jammu and Kashmir Statehood

In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Zamir Abdullah, son of Omar Abdullah, voiced strong criticism against the Union government. He accused them of trying to weaken the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and the Abdullah family to pressure the people of the region. Zamir emphasized the importance of restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, stating it as a right akin to democracy.

He highlighted unemployment and electricity as key issues, asserting that statehood is essential for fulfilling the people’s aspirations. Zamir called for a movement to demand statehood and criticized Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, alleging he was appointed like a king without local power. He affirmed the JKNC’s commitment to fighting for statehood, supported by the people’s mandate.

Earlier, JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah expressed confidence in Omar Abdullah becoming the next Chief Minister. However, Omar stated that the decision lies with the legislators and the alliance. The recent J&K assembly elections saw the JKNC-led alliance win 42 seats, Congress 6, and BJP 29, marking the first election since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
