Zaheer Khan Joins Lucknow Super Giants as Mentor for IPL 2025
Former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan is set to join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as the franchise’s mentor for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. He will replace Gautam Gambhir, who left the role after IPL 2023 to mentor Kolkata Knight Riders, the winners of IPL 2024.
It is still uncertain whether Zaheer will also take on the role of bowling coach, a position left vacant by Morne Morkel. Morkel joined Gambhir in the Indian team’s management as the bowling coach.
LSG is considering giving Zaheer a wider role, which could include involvement in scouting and player development during the off-season. Currently, Justin Langer is the head coach of the franchise, having replaced Andy Flower ahead of IPL 2024. Lance Klusener and Adam Voges will continue as assistant coaches.
During his playing career, Zaheer represented Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, playing 100 matches and taking 102 wickets. Post-retirement, he was involved with the Mumbai Indians as director of cricket and head of global development from 2018 to 2022.
Zaheer had an illustrious international career, taking 311 Test wickets in 92 matches and a total of 610 wickets in 309 international matches across all formats for India. He is regarded as one of the greatest left-arm pacers in cricket history.
