Zaheer Khan in Talks to Become Mentor for Lucknow Super Giants
Former Indian bowler Zaheer Khan is currently in discussions with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to become the franchise’s new mentor. LSG, along with two other franchises, are keen to add the 45-year-old to their coaching staff.
Zaheer Khan previously served as the head of global development and later as the director of cricket for Mumbai Indians (MI) from 2018 to 2022. After Gautam Gambhir left his mentor role at LSG to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the position has been vacant.
There were earlier reports that Zaheer might become India’s new bowling coach, but former South African pacer Morne Morkel was appointed instead. LSG is looking to give Zaheer a broader role, involving scouting and player development during the off-season.
Currently, Justin Langer is the head coach of LSG, having replaced Andy Flower ahead of IPL 2024. In the previous season, LSG did not make it to the playoffs.
Zaheer Khan is considered one of the greatest left-arm pacers, with 311 Test wickets in 92 matches and a total of 610 wickets in 309 international matches. In the IPL, he played for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils, taking 102 wickets in 100 matches.
