YWCA of India Protests in New Delhi After Tragic Incident at RG Kar Medical College
In response to the rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) of India held a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The YWCA expressed solidarity with victims of gender-based violence and highlighted the urgent need for stronger protections for women.
YWCA’s National President, Kunjamma Mathew, addressed the gathering, demanding justice and safety for every girl and woman in the country. She urged women to refuse to be silenced and to fight for justice until every woman can walk without fear.
Earlier, the Supreme Court questioned West Bengal police on delays in filing the First Information Report and other issues related to the case. The court has set up a national task force to consider the safety of medical professionals in India, emphasizing the need to ensure women’s safety at work.
