Young Golfer Kartik Singh Aims for Victory at Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship
New Delhi, India – Kartik Singh, a talented golfer who is not yet 15 years old, is preparing to compete in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) at the Taiheiyo Club Gotemba. Kartik made history last year by becoming the youngest player to make the cut at the age of 13 years, nine months, and 22 days. The AAC will take place from October 3 to October 6.
In 2024, Kartik has shown remarkable progress, participating in over a dozen tournaments that contribute to the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He has finished in the Top-10 eleven times, with only one finish outside the Top-6. His achievements include winning the Black Mountain Asian Junior Masters and the Singapore Junior Golf Championships. Kartik also won the Boys 13-14 division at the Junior World Championships in San Diego.
Two of Kartik’s major highlights this year are his sixth-place finish at the R&A Junior Boys and third place at the Junior Players Championships at TPC Sawgrass. He has been named to the Junior President’s Cup International team and is considered a dark horse at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships in Japan, despite his world rank of 175.
The Indian Golf Union’s team for the AAC includes Kartik Singh, Rakshit Dahiya, Krishnav Nikhil Chopra, and Vedant Sirohi. Vedant, who plays for Webber International University, recently set a 54-hole individual record for his school and finished second in a tournament. Rakshit Dahiya has won three times in India this season and finished fifth at the Singapore Junior Boys, where Kartik was the champion. Krishnav Nikhil Chopra, whose father was an Indian cricketer, won two events in India and finished 12th at the Porter Cup in the US.
The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, established in 2009 by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), The R&A, and the Masters Tournament, aims to develop amateur golf in the Asia-Pacific region. The champion will receive an invitation to compete in the 2025 Masters Tournament and The 153rd Open, while the runner(s)-up will gain a place in Final Qualifying for The Open. The confirmed list of 113 players, which will eventually include 120 players, features defending champion Jasper Stubbs of Australia and four top-100 players from China: Wenyi Ding (No. 4), Xihuan Chang (No. 36), Xiangyun Bai (No. 61), and Paul Chang (No. 97).
