Yogi Adityanath and Other Leaders Praise ‘One Nation, One Election’ Proposal

New Delhi, India – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called the Union Cabinet’s approval of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal a ‘milestone’ step for political stability in India. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this decision, which he believes will lead to sustainable development and a prosperous democracy.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also praised the decision, highlighting that it will save time and money, which can be used for essential services like health and education. He called the decision ‘historic’ and said it would strengthen Indian democracy.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant echoed these sentiments, stating that the reform will bring stability, determine government terms, and save resources. He welcomed the decision wholeheartedly.

HD Kumaraswamy, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, also supported the initiative, calling it a historic step towards improving India’s electoral system. He mentioned that the Janata Dal (Secular) party welcomes the ‘One Nation, One Election’ system.

However, Congress leader Manish Tewari questioned the move, citing concerns about federalism and the structure of the Indian Constitution.

The proposal, which includes simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, as well as urban body and panchayat polls within 100 days, was approved by the Cabinet and will now be tabled in Parliament. The High-level Committee on Simultaneous Elections, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, submitted its extensive report earlier this year.
