Yogeshwar Dutt Predicts Double-Digit Medals for India at Paris Olympics

Former Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt believes that India will achieve a double-digit medal tally at the upcoming Paris Olympics. India had their best performance at the Tokyo Olympics, winning seven medals, including one gold, two silver, and four bronze.

Yogeshwar is confident that the trend of winning medals in wrestling will continue in Paris. He noted, “In the last four Olympics, we have won medals in wrestling. This time as well, we will win a medal in the sport. Out of the six wrestlers who qualified for the Olympics, five are female, and one is male. We can win two to three medals in wrestling.”

Neeraj Chopra, who won India’s first track-and-field gold medal in javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics, is expected to perform well again. Yogeshwar also mentioned other strong athletes like PV Sindhu and Mirabai Chanu, who are part of the Indian contingent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has motivated the athletes to perform better. Rani Rampal, India’s women’s hockey player and coach, is hopeful that the men’s team will improve their bronze medal from Tokyo. She said, “Last time, our men’s team won a bronze, and this time, the country has high expectations from them that they will win a different medal. They have prepared a lot for that. We should support our team no matter what.”

India’s men’s hockey team is in Pool B, which includes Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, Ireland, and reigning champions Belgium. To advance to the next round, India needs to secure a top-four finish in the group stage.
