Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan Chosen as Congress Candidate for Shiggaon Bypoll
In New Delhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan as the Congress candidate for the Shiggaon Constituency in the upcoming Karnataka Legislative Assembly bypolls. This decision was announced in a press release by the All India Congress Committee.
On the same day, Bharat Bommai, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, submitted his nomination as the BJP candidate for the Shiggaon bypoll. The Congress has also announced candidates for two other seats in the Karnataka bypolls. CP Yogeshwara, who recently joined Congress, will contest from Channapatna, and E Annapurna, wife of Bellary MP E Tukaram, will run for Sandur.
The NDA has fielded Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, for the Channapatna bypoll. These bypolls are necessary due to the resignations of HD Kumaraswamy, Basavaraj Bommai, and Tukaram after their victories in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Karnataka bypolls are scheduled for November 13, alongside elections in 47 assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala. The vote counting will occur on November 23, as per the Election Commission of India.
