Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill Lead India to Victory with Record Partnership Against Zimbabwe
Harare, Zimbabwe – On Saturday, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill achieved India’s second-highest partnership in T20Is during run-chases. This young duo shone in the fourth T20I against Zimbabwe at Harare, chasing a target of 152 runs.
Jaiswal and Gill dominated the Zimbabwe bowlers, securing a 10-wicket win with 28 balls to spare. They built a partnership of 156 runs. The highest partnership in T20Is during run-chases for India is also held by Jaiswal and Gill, who scored 165 runs against West Indies last year.
This match marked India’s fifth 150-plus opening stand in T20Is, with the highest being a 165-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul against Sri Lanka in 2017. It is also the fifth instance of a 150-plus run-chase in T20Is completed without losing any wickets.
India won the toss and chose to field first. Zimbabwe started well with a 63-run opening stand between Wessly Madhevere (25 runs) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (32 runs). However, Indian bowlers soon took control, with Khaleel Ahmed taking 2 wickets for 32 runs. Shivam Dube, Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, and debutant Tushar Deshpande each took a wicket. Zimbabwe ended their innings at 152/7 in 20 overs.
During India’s run chase, Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 93 runs off 53 balls, including 13 fours and 2 sixes, while Gill scored an unbeaten 58 runs off 39 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Their performance led India to a comprehensive victory.
With this win, India secured a 3-1 series lead over Zimbabwe, with one game remaining. Jaiswal was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.
