On October 26, Yahya Afridi was sworn in as the 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan during a ceremony at President House in Islamabad. The event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and other dignitaries.

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Afridi, expressing confidence in his ability to guide the judiciary with integrity and fairness. Afridi was nominated by a Special Parliamentary Committee formed under the 26th Amendment.

Oath and Tenure

President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath, and Afridi will serve a three-year term. His predecessor, Faez Isa, was given a farewell during a full court reference.

Reconstitution of Committees

After taking office, Afridi reconstituted the Practice and Procedure Committee, reinstating Justice Akhtar. This follows recent amendments to the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act 2023, which allow the Chief Justice to select any Supreme Court judge as a committee member.
