At the 16th BRICS Summit held in Kazan, Russia, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of a peaceful and secure world. Speaking at the Kazan Expo Centre, he stated, “We need to build a peaceful BRICS,” highlighting the need for the group to act as guardians of common security.

During the session, Xi called for an immediate ceasefire in ongoing conflicts, particularly in Gaza and Lebanon, and urged for de-escalation in the Ukraine crisis. His comments align with China’s 12-point peace plan, which stresses respect for sovereignty and international law.

Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the session, discussing the potential expansion of BRICS, with over 30 countries expressing interest in joining. He emphasized the need to balance expansion with maintaining the group’s effectiveness.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, shared a photo of BRICS leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taken before the summit. The leaders aim for a stronger, inclusive, and multipolar world.

The summit, chaired by Russia, focuses on “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” providing a platform for leaders to address global issues.
