Wrestling Federation President Sanjay Singh Claims Congress Behind Wrestlers’ Protest
Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 7: Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh stated that the recent joining of wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia to the Congress party proves that the Congress was behind the wrestlers’ protest. He claimed that Deepender Hooda and the Hooda family masterminded the protest.
Speaking on Saturday, Singh said, “They joined the Congress, so this proves that they were behind that protest. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was associated with the BJP. I am not associated with any party or person but they still opposed me too… This whole protest was politically motivated.”
Singh added that the protest had halted wrestling activities for two years, leading to fewer medals in the Paris Olympics. He emphasized that the protest was politically motivated and orchestrated by the Congress party.
Earlier, former WFI president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh also claimed that the wrestlers’ movement was a conspiracy by the Congress. He mentioned that he had predicted this when the protest started at Jantar Mantar in January last year.
On Friday, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party, resigning from their positions in Northern Railways. Vinesh Phogat was fielded in the Julana constituency for the upcoming Haryana polls, while Bajrang Punia was appointed working president of the All India Kisan Congress.
