World Leaders to Discuss Future of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Kazakhstan
Astana, Kazakhstan – On July 4, world leaders will gather in Astana, Kazakhstan, for the 24th Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State. The summit will review the activities of the SCO over the past two decades and discuss future cooperation.
India’s Participation
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation. India’s priorities in the SCO are guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘SECURE’ SCO, which stands for Security, Economic cooperation, Connectivity, Unity, Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Environmental protection.
Kazakhstan’s Role
Kazakhstan, under the leadership of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, will host the summit. President Tokayev has proposed initiatives like the establishment of a joint investment fund. Prime Minister Modi has expressed his support for the summit and the continued partnership between India and Kazakhstan.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a permanent intergovernmental international organization. Its main goals include promoting cooperation in politics, trade, science, culture, and education, as well as ensuring regional peace and stability.
