Woman Seeks Delhi High Court’s Permission to End 32-Week Pregnancy Due to Abnormal Foetus

A married woman has approached the Delhi High Court seeking permission to medically terminate her 32-week pregnancy because the foetus has abnormalities. Justice Sanjeev Narula has called for a report from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The petitioner, referred to as Mrs. A, was directed to appear before the AIIMS Medical Board for a medical examination. The hospital has been instructed to file a report by July 13, and the matter will be reviewed on July 15.

The woman’s lawyer, Amit Mishra, explained that the abnormalities were discovered on July 4 after an ultrasound test. Further opinions from four other labs confirmed the same results. Given the advanced stage of the pregnancy, the court has expedited the process for obtaining the medical report.
