In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, two women were injured in wolf attacks in Mahasi village. The victims are 28-year-old Gudiya from Singhia Nasirpur and 50-year-old Mukima from Nasarpur.

Details of the Attacks

Gudiya was attacked around 10 pm while lying down with her child. She said, “I was lying down. My child was with me when suddenly the wolf came and held me by my neck. I screamed and started running away…It was a wolf…The door of the house was ajar.”

Mukima was attacked around 11 pm while sitting outside her home. She said, “The incident occurred around 11 pm. I was sitting down outside my home when the wolf came and held me by my neck. I screamed. It was dark, so I couldn’t see anything. Hearing my scream, everyone came to me.”

Previous Attacks

Earlier, 50-year-old Pushpa Devi and an 11-year-old girl were also attacked by wolves. Pushpa Devi was severely injured, and the girl was admitted to the local government hospital for treatment.

Forest Department’s Response

The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department has captured five wolves responsible for the attacks, with one still at large. They have initiated ‘Operation Bhediya’ to capture the remaining wolf. Snap cameras have been installed in probable wolf habitats to monitor their movements.

So far, nine people have been killed and more than 50 injured due to wolf attacks in various villages of Bahraich.
