Wild Elephant Found Dead in Assam’s Biswanath District
A wild elephant was found dead in a paddy field in the Goroimari area of Assam’s Biswanath district. Locals discovered the carcass and informed forest officials and police. Sub-inspector Goutam Kumar Singh stated that they are investigating the situation, noting that wild elephants often visit the area. Dr. Kusumbar Dutta, a veterinary doctor, mentioned that the elephant might have died from an infection, with a post-mortem planned to determine the cause.
This incident comes after World Animal Protection urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the transfer of elephants from Assam to a temple in south Delhi, arguing it would be cruel and detrimental to wildlife conservation. Gajendra Kumar Sharma, Country Director of World Animal Protection in India, emphasized the importance of keeping elephants in their natural habitat.
